Swimming team off to Barcelona

KATHMANDU: An eight-member Nepali swimming team, including four players, left Kathmandu on Monday to participate in the 15th FINA World Swimming Championships being held in Barcelona, Spain from July 19 to August 4. [break]



Shirish Gurung, who holds six national records, will compete in the men´s 100m and 200m freestyle events at the championship while Miraj Prajapati will compete in the men´s 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke events.



Likewise, Olympian Shreya Dhital will compete in the women´s 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly events. Sofia Shah will represent Nepal in the women´s 50m and 200m freestyle events. Nepal Swimming Association (NSA) has appointed Ongden Lama as the team coach while NSA General Secretary Jagat Man Shrestha is the team manager.



Meanwhile, NSA Vice-president Rajesh Bajracharya and member Bipin Timla will attend the FINA Technical Seminar to be held in Barcelona during the championship. NSA President Ashok Bajracharya is already in Barcelona to participate in the annual congress of International Swimming Federation (FINA).
