"National Sports Council (NSC) has sent a letter to include swimming after the stipulated deadline and we could not register any player," said Shrestha. [break]
He also clarified that NOC cannot recognize the work of any swimming body other than the Nepal Swimming Association (NSA) recognized by FINA, the governing body of world swimming.
NSC has dissolved the NSA led by Pragun Samsher Rana in July and formed a new committee under the leadership of Samim Miya Anshari. The Anshari-led NSA has recently selected swimmers Shaila Rana and Shailesh Rana for the Asiad. It has also concluded its general assembly and elected Anshari for the post of NSA president.
"We cannot recognize NSA formed by NSC, as the latter had dissolved the sports body violating the Olympic Charter and FINA also has sent a letter to us and NSC stating they might suspend Nepali swimming if Rana´s committee is not reinstated," said Shrestha.
"We have written to NSC not to go against Olympic Charter. They are commiting one after another mistake. If we react on it, swimming may face suspension at the international level. We don´t want suspension and we are making NSC aware about it," said Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan.
