KATHMANDU, July 14: The rivalry between National Sports Council (NSC), the apex sports body of the nation, and Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) has taken an ugly turn following the first meeting of the recently reshuffled Nepal Swimming Association (NSA) on Wednesday at the Swimming Complex, Satdobato.

NSC had dissolved NSA on Sunday and formed a new ad hoc committee under the chair of NSC member Samim Miya Ansari. However, NOC has refused to give affiliation to the newly formed swimming body citing it as ´undemocratic.´ [break]

NOC President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan said that NOC would not give authorization to any sports body formed in an undemocratic way. “We don´t know any NSA under the leadership of Samim Miya Ansari, and the dissolution of NSA is against the international practice and Olympic charter,” Pradhan said.

Meanwhile, the meeting of the newly formed NSA has formed a committee under the coordination of general secretary Jagatman Shrestha for development and promotion of swimming, states a press statement issued by NSC.

The meeting held under the chair of president Ansari also discussed plans and polices of the association.

The meeting has also urged NSC treasurer Min Krishna Maharjan to include swimming in the games to be participated by Nepal in the 16th Asian Games to be held in Guangzhou, China. Maharjan is also the coordinator of Asian Games Preparation Committee.
