KATHMANDU, Feb 27: It looks like Robocop on wheels. It started a style revolution when it was introduced as a concept bike at the Tokyo Auto Show in 2001. And it has started prowling the streets of Kathmandu. Welcome Suzuki GSX1300BK or Suzuki B-King. It was unleashed into the streets of Kathmandu Tuesday and this beautiful beast of a bike screamed out, staking a claim to be the king of street bikes here and calling on its three Hayabusa cousins to fight for the crown. [break]

The first inkling of the B-King’s presence will be its screaming roar behind you and then before you know it you´ll be left watching it’s double under-tail exhausts disappear in front.

B-King is priced Rs 2.2 million, the same as the Suzuki GSX1300 (Hayabusa), and has an engine based on the 1340 cc Hayabusa engine but with different exhaust and inlet systems. It’s 1,340 cc, 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 16-valve DOHC engine features a gear-driven counterbalancer for smooth operation.

At the center of the B-King’s console is it analog tachometer which has the LCD digital speedometer and gear indicator display to its right and a range of other indicators to the left. These include lights for turn signal, fuel injection, water temperature, oil pressure, natural selection and high beam. The LCD display also has a clock, odometer, dual trip meter, maintenance intervals, average speed, running time, fuel indicator, engine temperature and S-DMS selection.

S-DMS or Suzuki Drive Mode Selector is a system by which a rider can select between driving modes which change engine settings depending on riding conditions or rider preferences. “Mode A is for highways when the engine is allowed to deliver more power while Mode B limits the power and is suitable for city driving,” Amar Rajkarnikar, Managing Director of Ganesh Enterprises Pvt Ltd, the authorized distributor of Suzuki two-wheelers for Nepal, told myrepublica.com.

For a bike that can travel at round 300 kmph, keeping the handle straight at high speed is what separates life and death for the rider. In comes ‘steering dampers’, a system which makes the handle harder as you speed up.

There are times when you want to drive alone and times when you’ve got company. With Suzuki B-King, you can customize your saddle for a single seater or adjust the rear for a pillion rider.

The B-King has a whole lot of integrated computer systems, an especially interesting one being the ‘Black-box.’ A system which records all activities like the max speed, distances traveled, times of each trip, when it was started in the morning and a whole lot of information that the mechanics will use for diagnostic purposes during servicing.

Of course for a piece work like this, no description will do justice. It is simply the result of art and engineering. A head turner it will be no doubt.

But with the single unit of the bike that was imported already gone, those who want to own the beast will have to wait for around six months for delivery. Ganesh Enterprises will dispatch the orders for an upfront cash deposit of 50 percent of the total amount. It has also partnered with banks to provide a financing system of between three to five years. The down payment is 20 percent while interest per annum is 11 percent. It is available in two color combinations, Metallic Phantom Grey/Metallic Mistic Silver and Solid Black/Mettalic Mat Black No. 2.
