My City team talked to Kinji Saito, Managing Officer of Suzuki Motor Corporation to know more about Suzuki. Following are the edited excerpts of a conversation with him:

In your opinion, what role government, automobile manufacturer, and consumers shall play in order to make positive impact on people’s life?

Without having a proper transportation system, the county cannot grow in terms of economy and in terms of people’s happiness.  I have talked to several governments that mobility is very important for the development of the country.

And, for smooth mobility of people we have to fill the gap between costumers, automobile companies and infrastructure development authorities. Similarly, there must be a proper government planner just like — if there is a small congested city, the government should look for an alternative because registering huge number of automobiles in such cities will cause traffic congestion.  Likewise, for hustle free mobility, we must have a proper infrastructure, good traffic management systems, and parking space. Then, manufacturer like us can produce automobiles with good features. And, if government needs some additional features to secure people’s life, we are ready to consider that.

What is the condition of Suzuki in global context and in Nepal?

We are known for environment friendly and affordable cars aiming to be accessible luxurious transportation for maximum number of people. Globally, we are producing 3.3 million units of automobile each year. Out of them 2.6 millions of car falls under ‘A’ segment and ‘B’ segment which is compact car. We are recognized to provide cars to a country where people are not enjoying a car ride. Nepal falls under that category and that is why our product fits into Nepali market. We provide cars that can travel in a narrow road and a high altitude.  We believe to make an impact in development of this country.
