Surya Nepal NPGA Tour Championship: Bhuwan maintains lead on day II

KATHMANDU, April 22 : Bhuwan Nagarkoti (Umesh) carded four-under 68 to maintain his lead at the end of the second round of the Surya Nepal NPGA Tour Championship at the par-72 Gokarna Golf Club, Kathmandu, on Tuesday.

Bhuwan posted a 36-hole total of 10-under 134 to finish the day four -stroke ahead of Nepal No 1 Shivaram Shrestha. The later carded five-under 67 for a total score of six-under 138. Surya Prasad Sharma carded a 67 to climb to third at four-under 140, two stroke ahead of fourth placed Bishnu Sharma who also carded five-under 67 at two-under 142.


Sanjay Lama (72), Bal Bhadra Rai (71) and Ramesh Adhikari (70) shared fifth position at one-under 143, while Rame Magar was eighth at even-par 144 after he shot a 71. Deepak Magar was ninth at 147, while Jayaram Shrestha, Yelamber Singh Adhikari and Dinesh Prajapati shared the 10th position at four-over 148.

Others who survived the cut applied at nine-over 153 included Ram Krishna Shrestha, Sunil Mizar, Deepak Neupane, Dhana Bahadur Thapa, Purna Sharma, Rabi Khadka, Sachin Prasad Bhattarai, Prasanna Upreti, Suman Rai and Pashupati Sharma.

The two amateurs to make the cut were Bikash Bogati and Tanka Bahadur Karki. Bikash Bogai carded a two-under 70 for a total score of one-over 1456, while Tanka Bahadur Karki is a distant second at 152 after a round of one-over 73.

On the second day of the tournament, Bhuwan took the turn at five-under 31 with birdies on the first, second, third, fifth and seventh holes. He played one-over 37 on the back nine that included birdies on the 10th and 12th holes against bogeys on the 14th, 17th and 18th holes.

Shivaram carded two-under 34 on the front nine and added three-under 33 on the back nine. Shivaram carded a total of eight birdies on the first, third, sixth, ninth, 11th, 12th, 15th and 18th holes and he faced three bogeys on the fifth, eighth and 16th holes. Likewise, Surya played one-under 35 on the front nine and carded four-under 34 on the back nine. His round included seven birdies on the third, ninth, 10th, 11th, 12th, 15th and 17th holes against two bogeys on the second and 14th holes.

A total of 41 players, including 34 pros and seven amateur golfers, are taking part in the eighth and final event sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd.
