Support to journalist Bhomjan’s family continues

KATHMANDU, May 21: Nepal Sports Journalist Forum (NSJF) on Wednesday received financial support of Rs 155,000 for the family of late sports journalist Suman Bhomjan who died on April 25 earthquake.

The Players' Welfare Fund of the National Sports Council (NSC) gave away Rs 100,000 to Bhomjan's family through NSJF. The family members of all deceased sportsperson including Bhomjan were given Rs 100,000 each as relief. Similarly, Rs 20,000 each was allocated for sportsperson whose houses had collapsed by the earthquake. The chairman of the fund, Yuvaraj Lama, who is also the member secretary of the NSC handed over the cash to Prakash Timalsina, the secretary of NSJF and the executive member of the Federation of Nepalese Journalist.


Meanwhile, social activist Sarita Gurung who had collected relief for earthquake victims gave away Rs 30,000 to Bhomjan's family through NSJF.

Similarly, Rajeev Silpakar gave away Rs 15,000 on behalf of the 35th LRS D-flight Traffic Management Personnel. Silpakar is the staff sergeant of the United States Air Force.

One Arun Kumar Shrestha, the executive member of Federation of Transportation Entrepreneurs gave away Rs 10,000 from his personal coffers.

NSJF executive member Prajwal Oli received the amount from Gurung and Shrestha while Prakash Timalsina received the amount from Silpakar.

Speaking after the amount handover ceremony, Gurung who is also a photo journalist, said that she had collected more than Rs 900,000 through Facebook campaigning. "We distributed relief goods worth Rs 350,000 to the quake victims of Thami VDC of Gorkha. We are planning to distribute corrugated sheets amounting Rs 500,000 to the earthquake victims of Barpak, Gorkha."

Silpakar who has arrived home to meet his family members following earthquake said that his colleagues at 35th LRS D-flight Traffic Management collected the amount to support the earthquake victims.
