KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Sumana Shrestha has expressed dissatisfaction after the 11th National Convention of the CPN-UML, where old leaders won most positions, including the chairman.
Commenting on newly elected Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s victory, she said it reflects “the lack of democratic practice within parties as a reason for the country’s current state.”

She wrote, “The reason for the country being in this state is precisely the absence of democratic practice within parties. To stop the musical chair in the Prime Minister’s office, major political change was necessary. What is needed is not just numbers but higher political consciousness.”
She further stated, “Citizens who could forget the incident of September 8 and 9 became more loyal to the party than the nation. We have truly reached the era of 22–24 states.”
On Thursday, Oli defeated his rival Ishwar Pokhrel by a large margin to be elected UML chairman for the third term. However, Pokhrel secured a win as a central committee member.
