SANAA, Yemen, July 6: Yemeni officials say a suicide car bombing has targeted a security compound near the international airport in the southern city of Aden, killing at least 10 people.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for Wednesday's attack, which came as Muslims worldwide celebrate the Eid al-Fitr holiday marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Yemen has recently been hit by attacks from an Islamic State affiliate.
The officials say that after the car bomb hit the Central Security headquarters, adjacent to the Aden International Airport, militants stormed the compound and were clashing with soldiers. Explosions were heard and ambulance sirens wailed in the distance.
They say the death toll is expected to rise. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.
