The agitating farmers on Monday took an employee and two vehicles of the factory under the control to pile pressure on the management. Farmers say the management is not paying them even though it has already taken fresh production in the market.[break]
Bharat Bidari, coordinator of farmers´ struggle committee, said they were compelled to launch protest against the management after the latter repeatedly ignored their demand for timely payment. He further added that farmers have taken under control factory staff Rikheswar Agasthi along with his bike and a jeep with registration Na 14 Pa 4360.
Surya Bahadur Bhandari, a farmer, said the factory owes around Rs 40 million to more than 300 farmers. “The management had said it would make payment within 15 days of sugarcane procurement. Unfortunately, it hasn´t happened,” he added.
Meanwhile, the management said it has already started releasing payment. Issuing a notice, the management said it has started making payment for sugarcane procured in January. Our outstanding dues will be cleared gradually in the coming day, the notice states.
