Subsidized diesel, kerosene for poor

KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) -- the state-owned petroleum monopoly -- has proposed to provide a subsidy of Rs 10 per liter of kerosene for people of disadvantaged groups, including students, who use kerosene as cooking fuel.



The meeting of NOC´s board of director held Sunday also proposed subsidized diesel to farmers for irrigation purpose. According to sources, NOC has proposed a subsidy of Rs 10 per liter on diesel for a maximum of 160 liters a year.[break]



The subsidy will come to effect once it is endorsed by the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies.



Poor families, who use kerosene-lit wick lamp, will get 5 liters of kerosene every month on subsidized price.



NOC has fixed market price of diesel and kerosene at Rs 68.5 per liter.
