Ujani Gurung, a student at the school, said the poor condition of the school building has also affected their studies. “The school remains closed when it rains,” she said.
The poor condition of the school building has prompted many students to enroll in schools in the nearby villages of Chitwan, said Jeet Bahadur Rana, principal of the school.
Locals also complained that the District Education Office, Tanahu has shown no concern toward the school´s plight. Locals have started seeking help from political leaders who have been visiting the village for their election campaign.
“We will vote the candidate who would help construct a new school building. We would not judge him on the basis of his affiliation to any political party,” said Karna Bahadur Thapa, a local.
Meanwhile, Prem Bahadur Gurung, a local leader, said he would request the concerned authority to construct a new building for the school. He also accused the current school management committee of not running the school properly.
Currently, 59 students are enrolled in the school.
