Naveen Dhital, Riyush Adhikari, Hulas Gurung, Sandesh Aryal and Anil Rayamajhi, the students of the +2 Science faculty and members of the junior researcher group of the college were responsible for the whole experiment. The pilot of the helicopter was Naveen Dhital who stepped into the cockpit and flew the engine almost three feet above the ground.
Principal Dr Shiva Datta Gyawali said that the success of the experiment would be an inspiration for not only the students of Universal College but for students all over the country. "Students have to try out things they learn, only mugging up science formulas will not benefit them," he said.
Newton´s third law is the base of the experiment, informed the students. The fan is made of steel plates, the cockpit is made of plywood and the engine is of a two-stroke Rx motorbike. The tail fan of the helicopter is a ceiling fan and petrol has been used for fuel.
The students prepared the engine with a total sum of Rs 36,000 provided by the college. In a joyous mood Naveen the pilot expressed his happiness and also requested the government to help young scientists with funds. "If the government provides us with funds we will make an even larger helicopter," he smiled.
The two-day festival also had a cable car, smoke pollution filter, playing tank, and other experimentations prepared by the students.
The students also explained to the audience in detail of the formulas and the method used in preparing the engine. The two-day festival at the college drew some 20,000 visitors, claimed the organizers.
