The students have also stood against the government plan to give blanket amnesty to the accused of serious cases of human rights violation including murder and rape. Ten student unions including All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU), Nepal Student Union (NSU), ANNFSU-Unified, fifth, sixth among others are protesting against the government. The students have also demanded the government to remove the present Attorney General Mukti Pradhan for his protection to the accused of brutal murder of journalist Thapa.[break]
The Free Student Union member of the Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, Kathmandu, Netra Mainali said that the students were well prepared to demonstrate the mock procession earlier on the day and protested despite interference.
"“round half dozen students were injured during the struggle to continue protest while security personnel tried to suppress,"”he said. The students of Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, Nepal Law Campus, Shankar Dev Campus and Balmiki Campus had joined the protest that began from Bishwa Bhasha Campus at Exhibition Road.
The ANNFSU chairman Madhav Dhungel said that the students are all set for mass demonstration across the country against the PM and AG on Tuesday. Similarly, the students are scheduled to picket the District Administration Office and stage sit-in at the office premise on Thursday.
He said that the student unions have come forward to protect the press freedom and rule of law in the country to strengthen the democracy.
The student unions have been protesting against the government and demanding justice to Journalist Thapa since January 10.
