KATHMANDU, April 7: A high speed cross-wind forced an AirAsia X Airbus A330 aircraft coming from Malaysia to overshoot the runway on Thursday afternoon.

According to an official of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), the aircraft with more than 300 passengers on board was about to touchdown when strong wind forced the aircraft to overshoot. "After the aircraft was caught in strong winds, the captain informed the control tower and aborted the landing," the official added. The incident happened at 4:40 pm.

According to official, the aircraft was in a holdover mode above Simara before its landing attempt.

Meanwhile, a Boeing 737 aircraft of FlyDubai had to be diverted to Lucknow due to strong crosswind at TIA. "The flight had to be diverted after its two landing attempts failed," the official added.

The Boeing 737 aircraft landed at TIA after the crosswind settled at around 5 pm.
