As per the three-point agreement, the government will provide compensation if any ambulance is damaged while carrying patients during bandas and actions will be taken against those involved in attacking ambulances. Similarly, all political parities and groups will be requested to provide safe passage to ambulances during strikes and shutdowns. [break]
"We had decided to hand over the ambulance keys to the DAO because we were unable to operate during strikes and shutdowns on safety grounds," said Nabaraj Lamichhane, coordinator of a struggle committee of ambulance drivers. "Now that the DAO has made various promises and reached agreement with us, we resumed the service."
More than 100 ambulance drivers in Chitwan had encircled the Chitwan DAO on Friday, completely halting their service.
According to Lamichhane, six ambulances were vandalized and six drivers were roughed up by banda enforcers in the last 15 days. Also two weeks ago, ambulance drivers in the district had halted their service demanding safety during strikes.
