MAHOTTARI, July 23: On the second day of the general strike called by the Jaleshwor Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) life in Jaleshwor came to a grinding halt. JCCI led joint struggle committee had called on the strike Wednesday to protest against the theft of documents from the district's Land Revenue Office (LRO) on July 10 and to pile up pressure on the District Administration Office (DAO) for investigating the case.

"We had to announce general strike due to DAO's apathy to investigate the issue," Kripashankar Mahato, coordinator of the struggle committee said in an attempt to justify the two-day long strike. Transportation, shops, educational institutions and industries remained closed for second day as well. Before calling on the strike, JCCI had padlocked the LRO and the District Survey Office and staged sit-in protest for a week demanding investigation into the theft.

Dipak Kafle, Chief District Officer (CDO) informed that the DAO was in discussions with the protestors over their demands and expressed hope that the strike will be called off soon.
