Birgunj, Feb 5: The newborn baby, who was stolen from the maternity ward of the Birgunj-based Narayani Sub Regional Hospital on Friday afternoon, has been found in Belwa of Parsa district.

Asha Paswan, wife of Mukesh Paswan of Bazaartole Chhapkaiya VDC-1 in Birgunj, had given birth to the baby boy at 11:40 am. Nurses were preparing to shift Asha to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from the maternity ward after noticing some health problems in both the mother and the newborn. But in the meantime, the baby was stolen.

Local police promised to find the baby in three days, after Asha’s kin and locals pressurized the police on Saturday to find the neonate at the earliest.

Following a tip-off that the neonate was at a house in Belwa-9 of Parsa, Superintendent of Police Govinda Shah raided one Bindeshwar Sah’s house at Milanchowk and found the baby. Police told Republica Online that one Lalsa Devi had stolen the neonate from the hospital.

The neonate was handed over to his mother and family. However, the neonate has been kept at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).Doctors said that the neonate had to be put in NICU as it was born weak and was deprived of medical care for two consecutive days after birth.

‘‘The neonate has been handed over to the family. We will tell you the details later,’ DSP Chakraraj Joshi said.

The neonate's father Mukesh Paswan said, ‘We had lost hope. Now we are very happy to get our baby back.”
