GORKHA, April 4: Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai said the country cannot afford to stall the peace process and emphasized that it will be concluded by mid April, at any cost.

Speaking in a program at Manakamana, Gorkha, on Wednesday Bhattarai also called on his fellow leaders to stay focused on constitution writing so that the new  statute could be promulgated in time. [break]

He stated that works related to drafting the new constitution have almost come to an end and that the new statute will be promulgated during the tenure of his government itself.

"The peace and constitution drafting processes have gained momentum now," the PM said. The moment the peace process concludes, the parties will put up their all-out effort to resolve contentious issues of constitution writing, PM added.

The conclusion of the twin tasks will open way for development of the country, he opined. He also claimed that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission on Disappearances will have been set up by mid-April.

"After the formation of the commissions, the government will provide relief packages to the families of the disappeared," PM Bhattarai said.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Jayanta Prasad, who was also present in the program, took the occasion to reaffirm that India will continue providing assistance to Nepal for its development efforts.
