SSP Khadka released on bail

KATHMANDU, July 18: Suspended Senior Superintendent of Police Shyam Bahadur Khadka was released on Monday after depositing a bail of Rs 7 million through a bank guarantee.



Following preliminary hearing on the corruption case involving Khadka and 33 other top police officials, the Special Court had ordered Khadka to deposit the bail amount Sunday. [break]



According to Special Court Registrar Dhir Bahadur Chand, Sidhhartha Bank has deposited the bail amount on behalf of Khadka. On Sunday, he was sent to Dillibazar jail after failing to submit the bail.



The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has accused a total 34 senior police officials and two contractors of embezzling about Rs 290 million while procuring the APCs and other logistics meant for Nepal Police peacekeepers in Darfur, Sudan.
