MANGALBARE, July 18: India’s Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) personnel have barred export and import of daily essentials from the northern border point in Ilam. Locals have been affected after the SSB banned export of ghee, chhurpi and potato to India for nearly a week. [break]

Likewise, the Indian security men have also banned import of the goods from India, saying that the ban was as per the orders of higher up authorities. People in Mabu, Mai Majhuwa, Tumling, Jaubari and Jogmai depend on India to purchase daily essentials and sell their produce as going to district headquarters is more costly and time-consuming than going to the markets across the border.

Locals say the SSB men impose the ban once or twice every year. Sonal Lama, a local, said the local agriculture produce is rotting due to the ban on the export. Locals also said the SSB personnel also frequently scold and threaten them for no reason.
