NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, UML leader Bhim Rawal and UCPN (Maoist) leader Lekhraj Bhatta, all of whom originally hail from far west, said that the reports would neither be acceptable to them nor to the people of the region. [break]
Deuba maintained that an integrated Far-western Region is in the best interest of the people of the region.
“The reports prepared in Kathmandu without reflecting on the reality of this region would not be acceptable to the people of Far-western Region,” said Bhatta, who is Minister of Commerce and Supply. He said that he would raise voice against the reports despite the UCPN (Maoist) support to the report submitted by the majority member of the SRC.
Bhatta claimed that he was prepared to give up his ministerial post for the cause of an integrated Far-western Region.
Earlier, Bhatta had called for a banda on Friday to protest the reports submitted by the SRC.
Similarly, Rawal stated that both the reports submitted by divided SRC members have overlooked the significance of an integrated Far-western Region.
“The demarcation does not take history, culture and geography of the far west into consideration,” said Rawal and claimed that the reports would not be implemented.
NC leader Ramesh Lekhak, who also hails from Far-western Region, maintained that he would oppose the reports from parliament as well as from street stating that the reports, if implemented, would divide Far-western Region.
Local leaders of major political parties on Saturday burned the copies of the reports.
