The squatters demanded provision of ownership certificates of land they are living on for several years.
They claim that various commissions formed by successive governments have distributed certificates to non-squatters, who would usually sell the land while the genuine squatters have remained neglected.
Nepal Squatters´ Association, Nawalparasi, claims there are around 100,000 squatters in the district.
