SPORTS: KCC reaches simifinal

KATHMANDU, Dec 16: Kantipur City College (KCC) pulled off a second consecutive victory in the College Premier League T20 Nepal and entered into the semifinal of the college-level cricket tournament. KCC defeated Laboratory College by 19 runs on Sunday at Army School, Bhaktapur. KCC had defeated Pulchowk Engineering College by 55 runs on Saturday.



Laboratory elected to field but could not stop KCC from putting up a formidable total. KCC scored 150/4 in allotted 20 overs as Rajesh Pulami struck 66 runs off 34 balls. He hit six boundaries and three sixes. In reply, Laboratory was bowled out for 131 runs in 19.5 overs. Thupten Lama (23 runs) was the highest contributor for Laboratory. Man-of-the-match Nagendra Upadhyay took four wickets for KCC. Upadhyay bowled four overs and gave away only 23 runs to claim four wickets.



Army starts with a landslide victory

KATHMANDU: Nepal Army Club made a flying start in the First Women Football League being held in Dhangadi, Kailali. Army registered a landslide 14-0 win over Western Region. Deepa Adhikari and Anchali Waiba netted four goals each for the departmental team. Adhikari scored in the 24th, 45th, 52nd and 68th minute while Waiba scored in the 16th, 53rd, 54th and 56th minutes respectively. Krishna Khatri achieved a hat-trick scoring in the 7th, 57th and 73rd minutes. Kabita Dhimal, Kalpana Karki and Sarmila Thapa scored one each in the 10th, 27th and 90th minute respectively.



In another match, Central Region eased past Eastern Region 5-2 with four goals coming from Sapana Lama who socred in the 27th, 30th, 68th and 71st minute. Roshani Rakhal scored in the 64th minute. Samrachana Pradhan and Sapana Rai scored one apiece for Eastern Region in the 42nd and 87th minutes.



Stage all set for Readmore Badminton

MAHENDRANAGAR: Readmore All Nepal Inter-School Badminton Tournament 2069 is all set to kick off on Tuesday in Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur. It is the first national level badminton tournament being held in the district in the last 28 years. According to tournament coordinator Dipendra Kumar Shrestha, the treasurer of the Nepal Badminton Association, participants are converging in Mahendranagar for the tournament. According to Shrestha, altogether 220 shuttlers from 24 districts and four clubs have already reached Mahendranagar. The tournament will feature competitions in U-19 boys and girls, U-15 boys and girls as well as veterans´ above 45 and veterans´ above 55 categories. Readmore Publishers and Distributors has sponsored the tournament to be organized by Far Western Region Badminton Association. The winner in the U-19 boys´ section will receive Rs 30,000 while the winner of the girls´ section will bag Rs 20,000. Likewise, U-15 champion in boys section will get Rs 15,000 while girls´ section winner will take home a check worth Rs 12,000.



Chandbagh, Pennwood in final

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): The Chandbagh School set up final clash with Penwood Academy in the girls´ section of the Fourth Jiten Thakuri Memorial Inter School Basketball tournament. Chandbagh defeated the Skylark School 20-15 in the semifinal match played on the court of Niten Memorial School, Tokha on Sunday. Sunita Gurung scored 10 points for the winning teams. Penwood edged past the defending champion Daffodil 20-15 in the second semifinal as Alisha Budhathoki netted 10 points. In boys´ section, Daffodil beat Oasis 41-32 to secure place in the final as Chhonde Lama contributed 18 points for the winner. Daffodil will take on the host NIMS in the final. NIMS edged past Deepjyoti 48-30 in the semifinal after Samir Tamang scored 25 points.



Host Neric reaches QF

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Host Neric Academy reached quarterfinal of the Second Neric-Zenith Inter School Basketball Tournament on Sunday in senior boys´ section. Neric thrashed Galaxy 25-11 on Sunday on its home court at Shankhamul, Kathmandu. Likewise, TIA beat Dibyagyan 32-26 and kathmandu Valley 25-20 on Sunday while Mt Kailash edged past Golden Peak 31-20. In senior girls´ section, Teresa defeated Gyanniketan 19-16 and upset New Vision 12-10. Meanwhile, Galaxy pulled a 16-14 victory over Innovative and Valley Public thrashed Bauddha Children Heaven 31-20. Mt Kailash beat Gyanniketan 29-22.



NAVAC felicitates Gurung

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Nepal Amateur Veterans´ Athlete Committee (NAVAC) felicitated Krishna Gurung on Sunday with cash prize for claiming bronze medal in the 17th Asian Masters Athletics Championship held in Chinese Taipei last month. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama handed over Rs 25,000 and certificate to Gurung amidst a program in the capital on Sunday. Gurung had claimed bronze medal in the men´s 10 km race in above-45 age group. Meanwhile, Indra Malla, another Nepali participant in the championship, was also felicitated in the program.

Nepal wins silver in team event

KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Kabita Paudel, Malika Thapa Chhetri, Anupama Magar and Niru Rama Magar of Balaju Karate Do Academy won silver on Sunday in senior women´s kumite during First KOI Open Karate Championship being held in Malaysia. The host Malaysia claimed gold in the event. Iran and Philippines were satisfied with bronze medals. According of Dhruba Bikram Malla, the president of Balaju Karate, Nepal vied with India in the quarterfinal, Iran in semifinal and Malaysia in the final. Earlier on Saturday, Kabita Paudel had won first gold for Nepal in women´s 48 kg category.
