SPORTS BRIEFS: Women's team finalized for SAG football

KATHMANDU, Dec 27: A-20-member women´s football team has been finalized for the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) to be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 29 to February 9. [break]



The team under the captaincy of Jamuna Gurung includes Bhagwati Thapa, Manamaya Magar, Deepa Chhetri, Tulasa Singh, Usha Bhandari, Sajana Rana, Niru Thapa, Laxmi Paudel, Nisha Dewan, Mira Maharjan, Anu Lama, Pramila Rai, Chandra Bhandari, Deepa Adhikari, Binita Shrestha, Ranjana Suruchi, Asmita Khawas, Namita Dali and Sapana Lama.





Basketball players selected for SAG



KATHMANDU, Dec 27: Nepal Basketball Association named 12 male players for the 11th South Asian Games (SAG).



Bipendra Maharjan, Manoj Sherchan and Binod Shrestha are in the list. Likewise, Rabindra Maharjan, Binod Maharjan, Bijay Khatri, Yukta Rambhakta Mathema, Amir Ghale, Sandesh Pradhan, Bikram Joshi, Sanjay Byanjankar and Karma Gurung are also included in the team. Ajay Manandhar and Rajib Joshi are picked as alternative players of the team.



The 11th SAG is scheduled to be held in Dhaka from January 29 to February 9.





´Sports a battle of science´



KATHMANDU, Dec 27: A student of sports psychology in South Korea, Siddhartha Bikram Pandey said that winning gold medal in international forum without the spirit of sportsmanship would be difficult.



Speaking at a press meet on Sunday to share his knowledge of sports, Pandey, a third dan in taekwondo and first dan in judo who is undergoing studies in Kangwon National University, explained that sports is not sports anymore but a battle of science. He said he would return to Nepal after completion of his studies.



Speaking on the occasion, Asian Journalist Association Vice-president Bishnu Nisthuri said that Siddhartha´s knowledge would be of great help to Nepali sports sector.
