With the wins, six-time champion Gyanu Baba has 26 points. Nepal Police Club (NPC) trails behind with 25 points after a 25-8, 25-12, 25-13 win over Angel´s Heart. Armed Police Force (APF) also registered twin wins, defeating New Diamond Academy 25-15, 25-15, 25-15 and Chandeshwari 19-25, 25-8, 25-5, 25-4.
The last league match between NPC and Gyanu Baba on Wednesday will be interesting as it will decide the title winner. If Gyanu Baba wins the match it will comfortably lift the title, but if NPC defeats Gyanu Baba there will be a tie between the two teams. The organizers informed that in case of a tie, the winner will be decided on the basis of set points won by the teams.
Meanwhile, the organizers felicitated the best players of the last six editions of the tournament. Those felicitated were Ramila Tandukar of New Diamond, Manju Gurung and Pariksha Gurung of Gyanu Baba, Kamala Pun of Angel´s Heart, Srijana Gurung of Tops Academy and Sipora Gurung of Fishtail Higher Secondary School.
Gautam wins Caddy Open golf
KATHMANDU: Bharat Gautam won the title of All Nepal Caddy Open golf tournament in the individual section on Tuesday. Gautam scored 110 in the tournament played on 27 holes with scratch handicap format. Gyanendra Bahadur Raut stood as runner-up scoring 111. Meanwhile, a team that included Gautam Raut, Kishan Kaliraj and Bikash Adhikari won the team title as they scored 334 in total. Team of Krishna Nepal, Dinesh Nagarkoti, Madhav Gautam and Santosh Rokka was runner-up with a total score of 378.
Shooters leaving for Qatar
KATHMANDU: A four-member shooting squad is leaving for Qatar on Wednesday to participate in 12th Asian Shooting Championship being held from January 11-22. The squad comprises two female shooters, a coach and a manager. Sneha Rajya Laxmi Rana and Ashmita Rai will be competing in the 10m air rifle event during the championship. Vice-president of Nepal Shooting Association Dhruba Bahadur Rayamajhi is the team manager and Asim Yadav is the coach. The championship is a qualifiying tournament for the upcoming 2012 London Olympics. President of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan said NOC would arrange a four-month training in London if the players qualify for the Olympics.
Teresa, Odyssey set up final showdown
KATHMANDU: Host Teresa Academy and Odyssey International Academy entered the final of the Third Teresa Academy Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Tuesday. Teresa thrashed Greenfield 31-13 as Aman BK scored 14 points. In another semifinal played on Tuesday, Ashok Pyakurel’s six points guided Odyssey to a 9-6 win over Awareness International Academy.
