SPORTS BRIEFS: Shrivastav guides Blue to win

KATHMANDU, May 22: All-round performance of Rupesh Shrivastav guided Blue team to an 11-run win over Red team on Tuesday during U-19 practice match being held as part of preparations for the U-19 Asia Cup scheduled to for June 23 to July 1 in Malaysia. Srivastav scored unbeaten 38 runs and pocketed three wickets for Blue that scored 239/7 after being invited to bat first. Shrivastav hit two fences facing 41 deliveries. [break]



Subash Kharurel garnered 37 runs and Surendra Chand collected 36 runs before being trapped leg before in the last ball. Pawan Shrestha (24), Krishna Karki (24), Sagar Pun (19) and skipper Prithu Baskota (15) contributed for Blue. Abhishek Jha of Red claimed two wickets.



Following the run chase, Red managed to score 218 runs with eight balls to spare in the 50-over match. Shiva Tandukar was the highest scorer for Red scoring 56 off 87 that included five boundaries and a six.



Rahul Vishwakarma (34), Subendu Pandey ((29), Pradeep Aire (27), Hasim Ansari (20) and Abishek Jha (12) were the other batsmen to contribute double digit figure for Red. Other than Srivastav, Blue skipper Baskota also claimed three wickets.


Planning Boys promoted in C division


KATHMANDU: Planning Boys secured a place for upcoming Martyrs Memorial C Division League on Tuesday. Planning Boys defeated Dholahiti Yuva Club 1-0 during the final of group A in the qualifiers for C division league being held in capital. Binod Karki scored the lone goal in the 54th minute for Planning Boys. Earlier, Mahadev Sthan Club thumped Panchdhara Club 5-1 and North Star Edged past Lagankhel Boys Club 6-2 with a hat-trick from Nabin Limbu.
