NIMS, Daffodil lift titles
KATHMANDU: Host NIMS and Daffodil lifted the boys´ and girls´ titles respectively in the Third Jiten Thakuri Memorial Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Monday. Daffodil defeated NIMS 27-25 in the girls´ final, while the host avenged Daffodil in the boys´ section pulling off a 60-42 victory. Sandesh Tamang of NIMS and Frezilla Tamang of Daffodil were adjudged the most valuable players in the boys´ and girls´ sections respectively.
Manank, Gateway into last eight
KATHMANDU: Manank and Gateway on Monday entered the quarterfinals of the Sixth FECA Cup Inter-school Boys´ Knockout Football Tournament. Manank routed Holy Cross 5-0 as Anil Ghimire completed a hat-trick for the winning side. Sujan Chaudhary and Pradeep Lama also added a goal each for Manank. Meanwhile, Gateway beat Tridevi 4-2 in tie-breaker to advance into the last eight.
St Xavier´s thrashes Eden Garden
KATHMANDU: Host St Xavier´s School, Godavari thrashed Eden Garden 7-0 in the 16th National Father Moran Memorial Invitational Boys´ Football Tournament on Monday. Rajkumar Tamang scored five goals and Yogesh Sapkota added another two. Meanwhile, the match between Kathmandu University School and Shuvatara School ended in a 2-2 draw.
LRI, Gyan Niketan storm into quarters
KATHMANDU: LRI and Gyan Niketan reached the quarterfinals of the boys´ section in the Ninth TIA Inter-school Basketball tournament on Monday. LRI defeated Central Public 52-32 as Nikesh Rai scored 23 points for the winning team. Likewise, Gyan Niketan thrashed Angel World 66-34. In other matches, Himalayan defeated Deneb 31-16, Loyalty beat Minar 29-17 and Valley Public registered a 21-17 victory over Universal. Meanwhile, the ´A´ team of host TIA crushed Awareness International Academy (AIA) 36-20. In the girls´ section, Kasthamandap defeated AIA 26-14 and Mahendra Bhawan beat TIA 27-24.
Double delight for Olympiad Shrestha
KATHMANDU: Olympiad Rajendra Prasad Shrestha registered double wins in the ongoing Second Asian Amateur Open and Women´s Chess Championship on Monday. Shrestha now has four points after defeating Low Zhen Vu Cyrus in the fifth round and Wong Yinn Long in the sixth round of the event being held in Malaysia. Other Nepali players, however, had mixed results in the day´s other matches.
Rabindra Shakya beat Chek Kin Keuw of Malaysia in the fifth round but lost to Mohammad Wahiduddin Khair in the sixth round. Shakya too has earned four points after the completion of the sixth round. Badri Thaiba lost both his matches of the day. Thaiba was defeated by Wahiduddin Nurul Huda in the fifth round and Hanif Harleiff in the sixth round.
Khandbari, APF-Jhapa in final
KHANDBARI: The host Khandbari Youth Club set a final clash against Armed Police Force team from Jhapa in the ongoing Khandbari Gold Cup Football Tournament. Khandbari defeated Deurali Club, Dhankuta 2-0 in the semifinal match played in Khandbari on Monday. Krishna Gopal Shrestha scored both the goals for the local team. Meanwhile, the APF team edged past Dangihat, Morang 5-4 in tiebreaker. The regulation time of the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
