In junior boys´ final, New Shrine saw off Babylon 45-31. Anamol Rai of National became the highest scorer. He had scored 86 points and was also adjudged the most valuable player.
Valley Public took home girls´ title winning all four matches of round robin league while Gyanodaya finished as runners up with three victories in the event contested by five teams. Shanti Shrestha of Mahendra Bhawan won the highest scorer award with 45 points in her name.
NASA inch closer to title
KATHMANDU: NASA International made it to the final of the 12th Don Bosco Cup Inter-college Basketball Tournament on Friday in the girls´ section. NASA dispatched the hosts Don Bosco 44-6 riding on 19 points of Rohini Limbu. In boys´ section, Untied Academy and Don Bosco A secured quarterfinal spots. United humiliated NASA 48-17 with 26 points from Tenzing Sonam. Likewise, Don Bosco A eased past Glacier 33-17. Rochak Shrestha contributed 17 points for the winning side. Likewise, VS Niketan defeated Nobel 55-41 in the last league match of group C to top the group and secure a place in quarterfinal.
TIA, Greenland in semis
KATHMANDU: Defending champions TIA and hosts Greenland A secured semifinal places on Friday in the Fifth Kwiks Greenland Inter-school Basketball Tournament winning their respective matches. HHCA and Gyan Niketan also booked semifinal spots. Ashis Maharjan contributed 23 points as TIA thrashed Mount Glory 54-30. Greenland A thrashed Angels Heart 73-16. Newson Puri and Manish Shrestha contributed 20 points each for the winning side. Gyan Niketan had a narrow 49-43 win over Arunodaya. Susan Magar netted 20 points for the winning side. HHCA saw off Greenland 38-28. Bijay Chauhan contributed 14 points for HHCA. In junior boys´ category, HHCA, Neric, Vallye Public and Awareness International Academy also booked final places.
New Diamond, Annal Jyoti start with win
KATHMANDU: Holders New Diamond Academy and Annal Jyoti started with a winning note in the Second New Diamond Valley-wide School Level Girls´ Volleyball Tournament that kicked off Friday. Hosts New Diamond registered double wins on the home court. Hosts thrashed Gyan Kunja 25-5, 25-4 and eased past Newton 25-8, 25-18. Annal Jyoti saw of Bhim High School 25-18, 25-14. Hima High School suffered yet another defeat when they were defeated 25-15, 22-25, 25-0. In other matches, Aadarsh, Gyan Sudha and Bijeshwori emerged victorious. Aadarsh dispatched Kuleshwor 25-15, 25-12, Gyan Sudha downed Samakhusi Boarding School (SEB) 25-22, 19-25, 25-21 and Bijeshwori crushed Aadarsh 25-7, 25-16.
Nepali´s continue with lead
KATHMANDU: Nepal Champion Badri Lal Nepali continued his reign at the ongoing Hetauda Invitational FIDE Rating Chess Tournament with 4.5 points on Friday after the end of five rounds. Nepali played draw against Uttam Raj Thapa in the fourth round and won against Niraj Niraoula in the fifth round. Bikash Kuluju, Madan Kayestha, Rajendra Bhandari and former Nepal champion CM Keshav Shrestha are jointly in the second position with four points apiece. Rabindra Shakya, Niraoula, Lav Kumar Shrestha, Milan Rokka, Uttam Raj Thapa, FIDE master Bilam Lal Shrestha, Dirgha Raj Joshi, Deepak Maharjan are in the third position with 3.5 points each. In the unrated category, Ramesh Prashad Chaudhary occupies top spot with 3 points after registering back-to-back win in the fourth and fifth round.
