SPORTS BRIEFS: NSC forms arrears committees

KATHMANDU, March 27: National Sports Council (NSC) has directed regional and district sports development committees to provide details of the expenses in the Sixth National Games. For the purpose, NSC had formed five regional committees and a central committee to settle arrears under coordination of its treasurer Indra Bahadur Thing on March 12.



NSC members Khadga Bahadur Ranabhat and Dev Kumar Lama are the members of the committee. [break]The regional committee consists of two executive members each from NSC board.



Earlier, on Sunday, Public Accounts Committee had directed NSC and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for settlement of arrears of Sixth National Games and submit an analytical progress report of the event. National Games was held in Dhanghadi and Mahendranagar of Far-western Region from February 26 to March 4.



Dhankuta in final

DHANKUTA: Dhankuta Football Club on Tuesday advanced into the final of International Invitational Bhojpur Gold Cup Football Tournament defeating United Kurseong Football Club (UKFC) of Darjeeling, India 3-2. Bartaman Rai netted a brace in Dhankuta´s victory. Rai, who had scored a hat-trick for his side in the team´s first match, opened the scoring in the 10th minute and added the second in the 79th minute.



Subash KC was also on target for Dhankuta in the 70th minute. Biren Taman and Pranit Lama scored one apiece for UKFC in the 35th and 87th minutes. Dhankuta´s custodian Manish Timilsina was declared the man-of-the-match. Dhankuta will play against the winner of the second semifinal between ANFA Academy and Gorkha Boys Sports Club.



Birgunj, Pulchowk off to winning start

KATHMANDU: Birgunj Youth Club and Shree Laligurans Pulchowk Sports Club on Tuesday started their Red Bull B Division National Football League on a winning note. During the matches played at Buddhibikash ground, Lagankhel, Birgunj Youth Academy came from behind to register a 2-1 win over Tusal Youth Club and Pulchowk defeated Chyasal Youth Club 1-0. Krishna Shakya netted both the goals in Bigunj´s victory. Shakya scored his first goal in the 35th minute to cancel Tusal´s 21st minute lead.



Tusal had taken the lead after Birgunj´s Lakhan Lal Chaudhary scored an own goal. Shakya netted the match decider in the 77th minute. In another match, Wangel Ghalan scored the only goal of the match in the 59th minute to guide Pulchowk to victory over Chyasal. Sankata will take on Trinity and Tusal will lock horn against Kasturi Yuva Club on Wednesday.
