SPORTS BRIEFS: Nepali judokas crash out

KATHMANDU, April 19: Both players representing Nepal crashed out from the Asain Judo Championship being held in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday. Saroj Maharjan lost to a Korean judoka in the second round of men´s U-60 kg category. In the first round Maharjan had defeated a Pakistani player.



Similarly, Lila Adhikari was defeated by a Mongolian player in her very first match of women´s U-48 kg category, Nepal Judo Association President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya said. Players from 28 different countries of Asia are participating in the championship.[break]



6 Nepali players share lead



KATHMANDU
: Six Nepali players shared the lead with three points each at the end of the third round in the Fifth JK Newatia Memorial International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament being held in Guwahati, Assam on Friday. FIDE Masters Wilamlal Shresstha and Sujendra Prasad Shrestha, Prachandaman Malakar, Madan Krishna Kayastha, Purushottam Chaulagain are the Nepali players to share the lead along with 19 other players. Similarly, FIDE Master Manish Hamal, Keshav Shrestha, Nabin Tandukar, Rajendra Bajracharya and Niraj Niraula have earned 2.5 points each. Altogether 343 players from Nepal, India and Bangladesh are competing in the six-day event.



Nepal concludes India tour with yet another win



KATHMANDU
: Nepali national cricket team wrapped up its India tour with a fourth straight win on Friday. Nepal is in India to play friendly matches with local teams to prepare for the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 to be held in Bermuda from April 28 to May 5. Nepal defeated Jaipur Cricket Academy by 41 runs on Friday with half-centuries from vice-captain Gyanendra Malla (58) and Sharad Vesawkar (59). Nepal elected to bat after winning the toss and made 201 losing nine wickets in the match reduced to 45 overs. Anil Mandal (4), Paras Khadka (6), Prithu Baskota (4) and Binod Bhandari (21) contributed to Nepal´s total while opener Subash Khakurel, Basanta Regmi and Sanjam Regmi were out without opening their accounts. Defending the total, Nepal´s Shakti Gauchan claimed four wickets while Sanjam Regmi and Amrit Bhattarai claimed two wickets each to bowl out Jaipur for 160 runs in 39 overs. Paras Khadka and Chandra Saud took one wicket each. The Nepali team will return home on Saturday.



Gurukul beats host KCM



KATHMANDU
: Host Kathmandu College of Management (KCM) was defeated by Gurukul on Friday in the girls´ category of Minsk KCM Basketball Bash 2013 being held in the capital. Maya Syangdan netted 14 points for Gurukul as it defeated KCM 37-24. In the boys´ section, Ace, K&K and Whitehouse won their respective matches.



Aditya scored 18 points in Ace´s thumping 44-2 win over Cosmos. K&K overcame British College 44-30, while WhiteHouse crushed NEC A 71-21. Minesh Shakya contributed the highest 14 points for the winning team.
