SPORTS BRIEFS: Nepal wins title

KATHMANDU: Nepal won the title of the First Indo-Nepal Karate Championship held in Kathmandu on Friday. Nepal won all the 16 gold medals of the tournament organized by Nepal Wadaryo Karate-Do Association at Basundhara. Manish Tamang and Geeta Rai of Nepal were adjudged best player of the tournament in men´s and women´s section respectively.



SEB felicitates Manandhar



KATHMANDU: Samakhushi English Boarding School (SEB) felicitated veteran athlete Baikuntha Manandhar, the South Asian record holder in marathon, on Friday. SEB principal Yuvaraj Thapa and School Management Committee Chairman Thakin Kumar Gurung presented a letter of appreciation and cash award of Rs 5000 amidst a program. Manandhar has a South Asian record of 2 hours 15 minute 3 seconds in marathon. He had won three gold medals in marathon event of the first three editions of the South Asian Games.


Bhojpur Sherpa Samaj in QF


KATHMANDU: Bhojpur Sherpa Samaj, Bhairabkunda Youth Club and host Sherpa Youth club reached the quarterfinal of the Third Sherpa Lohsar Cup, football tournament. Bhojpur thrashed Himalayan Bhote Samaj 6-0 while Bhairabkunda thumped down Ajnista Youth Club 6-1 in the matches played at Golphutar, Kathmandu. The match between Sherpa Youth Club and Sherpa Dolakha Samaj ended in 1-1 draw while Selung Youth Club defeated Buddhist Samaj 3-2.



Bagmati reaches final



KATHMANDU: Bagmati Modern School reached the final of senior girls´ section in the First Olympia Cup, an inter school basketball tournament. Bagmati defeated Little Angels 8-5 on Friday. Bagmati will take on Nobel Academy in the final. In junior boys´ section, Wilson defeated Neric ´B´ 25-19 to set up a title clash against Neric ´A´. Likewise, Bidyadayini and host Olympia will clash in the final of junior girls´ section. All the finals will take place on Saturday.



Loyalty wins football match



KATHMANDU: ´A´ team of host Loyalty Academy defeated Nobel Academy 3-2 in tiebreaker on Friday in the opening match of the Fourth Valley-wide Inter School Junior Boys´ Knockout Football Tournament. The winner was decided through tiebreaker after the regulation time ended on 1-1 draw and it couldn´t be decided on extra time.


Damai wins race



KATHMANDU: Dal Bahadur Damai won the 5km race organized by Nepal Telecom to mark its eighth anniversary on Friday. Keshav Shrestha finished the race on the second position. Phriya Chaudhary of Kailali won women´s 3km race while Bishnu Maya GC stood second. Meanwhile, Dinesh Harsha Bajracharya won veterans 5km race and Kiran Maske finished veterans 3km race on the first position.
