Prime, Nakhipot on winning streak
Prime Sports Club, NASA and Nakhipot Youth Club won their respective matches on Wednesday in the ongoing First Motidevi Cup Women´s Open National Basketball Tournament. These were consecutive wins for Prime and Nakhipot in the tournament.
Prime thrashed Xavier International College 39-21 at the National Sports Council Covered Hall. Nayana Shakya, who is also a national swimmer, scored 16 points for the winning side while Sima Karki scored 10 points for Xavier. Likewise, riding on Sudina Shrestha´s eight points, Nakhipot beat White House 26-19 to maintain their winning streak.
NASA defeated Teresa Academy 29-19 in the second match of the second day of the tournament. Samikshya Neupane and Ronahi Limbu scored eight points each for the winning side. Despite Sabita KC´s 12 points Teresa could not pull off a victory.
National Park advance into knockout stage
CHITWAN: Nepal´s National Park team registered third victory in the 29th International Elephant Polo being held in Chitwan´s Meghauli on Wednesday. National Park edged out Pukka Chakka of England 10-5 on the tournament´s third day to qualify for the knockout stage.
Likewise, Sepoys of the UAE defeated Tiger Tops Tuskers of Iceland 5-3. In another match, EFG of Switzerland ousted British Gurkha 10-5 to advance into the next round. Chivas Regal of Scotland emerged victorious in the last match of the league round. Chivas thrashed Afghani Fentaz 9-3. The knockout matches will begin from Thursday.
Academy announces month-long program
Madan Bhandari Sports Academy announced a month-long program of sports competitions on Wednesday.
The program includes competitions of different levels in 10 different games. Purendra Bikram Lakhe, general secretary of the academy, said during a press conference on Wednesday that basketball competition of schools and higher secondary level would begin on Friday.
According to Ramesh Silwal, the president of the academy, volleyball, martial arts, chess, basketball, table tennis, athletics, cricket, ITF taekwondo, football and badminton are included in the program.
Daffodil, Teresa cruise into QF
Daffodil, Young Hearts and Teresa advanced into the quarterfinals of the Sixth Unique Inter-school Vallley-wide Basketball Tournament in the junior boys´ category on Wednesday.
Daffodil thrashed Reliance 27-4 at the court of the hosts Unique at Siphal. Suraj Pathak contributed eight points for the winning team. Young Hearts struggled past Mount Glory 22-19 riding on 16 points of Karma.
In another match, Teresa defeated Babylon 31-12 to enter the quarterfinals. Sudeep Thapa Magar scored the highest 18 points for Teresa.
In the senior boys´ 3-on-3 basketball, NOBS beat VS Niketan 20-8 while HIMS earned a walkover from Saipal.
