KATHMANDU: Sunita Lama and Nihal Shrestha of Prime College on Sunday won table tennis singles gold medals in the girls´ and boys´ sections respectively during the HISSAN Sports and Extra Curricular Activities being held in the capital. Lama toiled hard to beat Erica Maharjan of her college 2-11, 11-7, 9-11, 13-11, 11-8 in the girls´ final. In the boys´ final, Shrestha edged past Piyus Awal of Guinness 11-9, 8-11, 12-10, 11-7. Meanwhile, Awal and Awin Prajapati´s pair of Guinness claimed gold in the men´s doubles. In men´s basketball, Golden Gate, Angels´ Heart, CCRC, Prime, National, Xavier International, Olympia and WhiteHouse won their respective matches while Global and Universal enjoyed walkovers.
Host Gyanodaya enters semifinal
KATHMANDU: Host Gyanodaya advanced into the semifinals of senior girls´ section in the 11th Gyan Niketan Inter-school Basketball Tournament being held in the capital. Gyanodaya defeated Sri Diwa 31-19 with 12 points from Gautami Bhattachan. In the senior boys´ section, Teresa Academy edged past Gyan Niketan 52-46 riding on 35 points of Rabi Khadka to book a quarterfinal berth. Similarly, Greenland overcame AIA 43-34, Kathmandu Valley saw off Gyanodaya 36-20 and Radiant defeated Babylon 42-30. In the junior boys´ section, Samit Khatri netted 16 points as Neric thrashed Innovative 48-9.
