SPORTS BRIEFS: Karate selection to resume

KATHMANDU, July 30: Nepal Karate Federation (NKF) held an emergency meeting on Friday to make a decision over the selection of players for the 16th Asian Games.



The National Sports Council had issued directives to NKF to complete the selection by Friday. NKF was not able to meet the deadline but there was a breakthrough in the deadlock. [break]



NKF decided to select one player in each weight category from each of its four member associations to compete in the preliminary selection. One player each from the departmental teams in each weight category would also be eligible for the selection as per the decision.



In addition, top three players of the Fifth National Games and the 11th South Asian Games selection would also be included in the shortlist.



Altogether 12 players in men´s and women´s categories will be selected from the preliminary round, states a press release issued by NKF.





Gyaljen memorial football on Saturday



KATHMANDU, July 30: A friendly football match "Gyaljen Lama Memorial Football" will be played on Saturday morning at the Dasharath Stadium to raise funds for the teenager footballer´s family.



Lama, an eighth grader at Mangaldeep Secondary School, died while playing inter-school football tournament on June 5.



The proceeds from the match to be played between the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum and Fans and Nepali Football will be handed over to Lama´s family in a remote village of Gorkha district.
