In the final, Jawalakhel had defeated defending champions Nepal Army Club in the sudden death. The club´s founding patron Ramlal Shrestha, coordinator Tulobhai KC and former President Rakshya Bahadur Chhetri among other felicitated the winning squad which was under the captaincy of Jaghhu Nath Khadka. On the occasion, players and officials were awarded with cash prizes and trophies. Bishal Rai A of the winning squad with three goals in his name and Bishal Rai B won the highest scorer and best players´ award respectively.
Meanwhile, the club also inaugurated the renovated ground. Buddha Air Operation-manager DB Basnet inaugurated the ground. In the friendly football match organized on the occasion Buddha Air hammered Jawalakhel veteran 5-0.
Jawalakhel General-secretary Manmohan KC informed that Rs 700, 000 were spent for renovating of ground. Former captain duo of the club John Thapa and Tilak Gurung who are currently at Hong Kong has provided Rs 50,000 for renovation.
Tandukar on sole lead
Former Nepal champion Nabin Tandukar is solely on the top of Patan Cup Chess Tournament underway at Gwarko, Patan. Continuing with his winning run on Saturday Tandukar has accumulated five points from the matches he played. In the fourth and fifth round held Saturday, Tandukar defeated Harichandra Chaulagain and Bikash Kuluju respectively. Rajan Puri is in second place with 4.5 points. Puri defeated Ramesh Bhandari and Ratna Byanjankar. Similarly, FIDE Master Manish Hamal, Rabindra Shakay, Bikash Kuluju, Radha Krishna Maharjan and Ratna Byanjankar have scored four points each to jointly occupy third place. Sajin Maharjan, Umesh Saiju, Govinda Khadka, Mankumar Gurung and Ramesh Bhandari have scored 3.5 points apiece.
Three wins for hosts
The hosts Unique registered three wins in the Sixth Unique Valley-wide Inter-School Basketball that kicked off Saturday. They won two matches in senior boys and one in junior boys section. In the inaugural, Unique defeated Midland 25-16 in junior section and in senior boys 3-on-3 event, hosts A saw off Neric 26-15 and host B had a narrow 20-18 win over Innovative while NOBS upset Saipal 18-11. In other matches under junior boys section, Panchayan thrashed Celebration 18-6 and Neric outclassed Awareness International Academy 21-14. Altogether 14 teams in junior and eight teams in senior category are competing in the tournament.
Greenland, Pennwood in final
Greenland has fixed the final date with Pennwood under boys´ section in the Eight Akira Cup Inter School Basketball Tournament. Greenland defeated Valley Public and Pennwood saw off Golden Peak in the semifinal played on Saturday. Riding on 18 points of Milson Pun, Greenland registered a hard fought 53-52 win over Valley Public. Likewise, Pennwood thrashed Golden Peak 52-36. Under girls´ category, Valley Public and hosts TIA A made it to the final. Valley Public outclassed Clinton Public 39-16. Samichhin Bista topscored with 14 points for the winning side. TIA had a narrow 28-26 win over daffodil. Anusha Malla contributed for TIA A.
