SPORTS BRIEFS: Cash prize for shooters

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Nepal Shooting Association has decided to award the players with cash prizes if they win medals in the 11th South Asian Games (SAG).



The gold, silver and bronze medalists will receive Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. [break]



Twelve players are scheduled to participate in four shooting events in the SAG.



The association also provided track suits to the players on the occasion.







National squad beats U-21


KATHMANDU, Jan 23: The national cricket squad defeated the U-21 team in the practice match of 50-over format by 41 runs at the Pulchowk Cricket Ground on Saturday.



The U-21 team is training for the 11th South Asian Games while the national team is preparing for the ICC World Cricket League Division 5.



Winning the toss, the national squad elected to bat and put up 189 runs losing all their wickets in 47.4 overs. Sharad Vesawkar contributed unbeaten 58 runs while Mehboob Alam struck 41 for the national squad. Prithu Baskota took 4 wickets for U-21.



In reply, U-21 were all out for 148 in the 44.1 overs. Anil Mandal was the highest scorer for U-21 as he hit 41. Man-of-the-match Basanta Regmi took 4 wickets for the national team.
