Nepali team came from behind to draw the match in the regular time. Bimal Gharti Magar scored the equalizer in the second half of the match. Aakash Thapa and Sagar Pariyar scored for Nepal in the penalty shootout while Nepali goalie Sujit Gurung saved three penalty shots from the opponent team. The Nepali team will play its final match on Wednesday against Nagaland.
The tournament is being organized by Indian Air Force. Butwal School is the only team representing Nepal in the tournament.
Morgan into Prime Cup quarters
KATHMANDU: Morgan College entered the quarterfinals of the Ninth Prime Cup Basketball Championship on Monday in the boys’ category thrashing St Xavier’s 60-18. In the other matches of the day, Pentagon, defending champion Prime, Golden Gate, Premier and National Campus registered wins. Pentagon registered a narrow margin victory over Orient with a score of 49-47.
Binod Lamichhane scored 23 points for the winning team. Ayush Singh’s 20 points guided defending champion Prime to a 48-42 victory over Xavier International. Golden Gate defeated ACE 44-24 as Bishal Gurung scored 14 points. Premier thrashed Bernhardt 47-20 with 12 points from Niranjan Gurung. In the last match of the day, National beat VS Niketan 54-28. Bikash Gurung was the highest scorer with 14 points.
Bajracharya’s pair triumphs
KATHMANDU: The pair of Umesh Bajracharya and Sujan Bajracharya on Monday defeated Buddha Ratna Maharjan and Dharma Maharjan’s pair 21-17, 19-21, 21-18 in the preliminary round of the Yala Cup Badminton Tournament being held in the capital. Sanil Shakya and Sanjil Shakya’s pair beat Suresh Maharjan and Ratna Lal Maharjan’s pair 24-22, 21-16, Dhruba Tamrakar and Jeev Krishna Tamrakar’s pair saw off Babu Ratna Maharjan and Rajesh Maharjan’s pair 30-29, 21-13.
In other matches, the pairs of Ramesh Maharjan and Devendra Maharjan, Bibhushan Tamrakar and Yuman Tamrakar, Sanjay Shakya and Rajan Shakya, Binod Maharjan and Babu Ratna Maharjan, and Sandip Shakya and Rupesh Shakya also emerged victorious.
Basketball tournament in Dharan
DHARAN: Dharan City Sports Development Committee will organize Inter-club Basketball Tournament from November 19-23 in Dharan. Altogether 10 teams will participate in the tournament. President of the committee Bikki Rai said teams from Dharan, Tarahara and Itahari have confirmed their participation in the tournament. The tournament will be held in league-cum-knockout format. The winner of the tournament will receive Rs 12,000 while the runner-up will bag Rs 6,000. The best player of the tournament will also be awarded cash prize, the organizers said.
