The army had a hard fought five-set win over the police. Army who lost the first set 22-25 bounced back in the second and third sets with 25-18, 28-26 to go ahead of their departmental opponents. [break]
The police, not in the mood to give up the match, took control in the fourth set with 25-19 win but their effort to lift the champions´ trophy did not materialize as they were down 10-15 in the last set .
Likewise, Armed Police Force defeated Myagdi Volleyball Training Center 25-22, 24-26, 25-8, 25-19 to claim the third place honors.
Deep Bahadur Khadka of the army won the best player of the tournament award while the best shutter, defender, server and coach titles went to Kumar Ranamagar, Dil Bahadur Karki, Kumar Rana and Keshav Shrestha respectively. Likewise, police players Sanjay Aryal and Prem Bahadur Shahi were adjudged the best spiker and blocker respectively.
The top four teams of the tournament were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000, Rs 8,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively along with trophies, medals and certificates by Narayan Man Bijukchhe, president of Nepal Workers Peasants Party.
Altogether seven teams participated in the tournament organized by Youth Sports Group, Bhaktapur.
U-19 badminton in Nepalgunj
KATHMANDU, Mar 7: The Second Under-19 National Open Badminton Tournament is scheduled to be held in Nepalgunj from May 19 to 22.
The tournament organizing committee announced the date of the tournament in the capital on Sunday.
Boys´ singles and doubles as well as girls´ singles events will be included in the tournament initiated by the Banke District Badminton Association.
According to the organizing committee, all the quarterfinalists will get cash prizes while the committee will bear all the accommodation expenses of the players.
