In 64 kg semifinals, Ajit Gurung of APF beat Rajesh Gurung of Sunsari and Bhupendra Thapa of Dang thrashed Gopal Shrestha of Rupandehi. In 56 kg semis, Surendra Karki of Lalitpur beat Narendra RC of Surkhet and Dipendra Bakhunche of Army thrashed Yogesh Gurung of the hosts.
In 52 kg semis, Sarajan Maharjan of the hosts defeated Hari Bahadur Sunuwar of Salyan and Raju Budhamagar of the hosts downed Gopal Basnet of Jhapa. In 49 kg, Rajkumar Maharjan of the hosts and Laxman Maharjan of APF made it to the final winning their respective bouts.
In women´s 64 kg, Deepa Chaudhary of APF and Pramila Rai of Jhapa made it through to the final. In 57 kg, Silu Dangol and Mugamaya Pakhrin of APF secured final spots.
In 51 kg, Sangita Hamal of Makawanpur and Maya Chaudhary of APF fixed the final date winning their respective bouts. In 48 kg, Pramila Pandey and Mala Rai of APF won their semifinal bouts to meet in the final.
Hosts RR start with win
KATHMANDU, Sept 3: The hosts Ratna Rajya (RR) Laxmi Campus started on a winning note in the Valley-wide Inter-college Volleyball Tournament that kicked off Friday on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the college.
Ratna Rajya B defeated Tri Chandra 25-18, 25-19 in straight sets. Likewise, Jaya Multiple beat Nepal Commerce Campus 25-19, 25-20 in straight sets. In another match, Pashupati Multiple beat Gramin Adarsha 25-16, 25-19.
Likewise, the hosts´ A team also registered victory over Gramin Adarsha to secure a quarterfinal berth. Another match between Jaya Multiple Campus was abandoned after the first set following heavy downpour. Jaya had won the first set 25-18.
Altogether 11 teams are participating in the tournament.
Shrestha, Karki in semis
KATHMANDU, Sept 3: Diwas Shrestha and Suman Kumar Karki of Nepal advanced into men´s 61 kg semifinals in the Fourth NSKA International Karate Championship. Pramesh Chhetri also moved into the semis in the same category.
In men´s 45 kg, Suraj Shrestha and Sadan Rana Magar, Jayaram Satsankar and Nirmal KC in 55 kg, Sonam Lama and Ranga Bahadur Thapa in 50 kg, Aman Gachha and Sanjay Tamang in 60 kg and Suman Kumar Karki and Upendra Shrestha in 70 kg of Nepal booked semifinal spots.
In women´s section, Jangmu Sherpa and Sushma Lama in 45 kg, Niru Rana and Sita Shrestha in 50 kg and Anupama Magar and Anjali Khadgi in open category secured berths in the semifinals.
AIA basketball from today
KATHMANDU, Sept 3: Awareness International Academy (AIA) is organizing the First AIA Inter-school Basketball Tournament from Saturday at the hosts´ court at Shankhamul.
In total, 26 teams in junior boys´ and 12 teams in girls´ section will be vying for the title. The tournament will be held in league-cum-knockout format. The expected cost of the tournament is Rs 150,000.
