Nepal´s No 1 Adhikari won all six matches he played on the first day one. Second seed Jitendra Pariyar and third seed Shreeram Magar are jointly in the second spot. Pariyar and Magar won five matches each on day one. [break]
Six seeded players and four qualified from preliminary round are competing in the final selection. Each player will play nine matches in the final selection. Top two players will qualify for the 16th Asian Games scheduled to be held in Guangzhou, China.
TIA, Golden Peak win
KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Trungram International Academy (TIA), Golden Peak and Daffodil won their respective matches in the girls´ section of the Fifth Valley Public Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Wednesday.
TIA defeated Prithvi 25-14 after Anushka Malla scored 14 points for the winners. Golden Peak eased past Chandbagh School 5-2 in a low scoring match while Daffodil thrashed Brihaspati 13-5.
Likewise, Buddha Academy, Babylon, New Shrine, Nerik, Skylark and Angels´ Heart won their matches on Wednesday in the boys´ category.
New Zenith triumph
KATHMANDU, Aug 25: New Zenith thumped Nalanda 39-3 in the junior boys´ category during the Valley-wide Inter-school Basketball Tournament Wilson Hoops on Wednesday. Likewise, NIMS, Pennwood, KISC, Araniko and Ullens won their respective matches in the senior boys´ category.
NIMS beat Excelsior 69-51 as Bikesh Budhathoki scored 30 points for the winners. Pennwood thrashed Nirmal School 48-27 while KISC edged Mount Kailash 38-35. Araniko defeated Delight 41-13 and Ullens demolished The British School 57-19.
