SPORTS BRIEFS: Aaha Gold Cup from mid-Jan

POKHARA, Dec 14: The ninth edition of Aaha Gold Cup football tournament will kick off in Pokhara on January 18, 2011.



The hosts Sahara Club, at a press conference organized on Tuesday, informed that the contest involving 12 teams will conclude on January 29. [break]



The winners of the tournament will get Rs 200,000 along with trophy while the runners-up will receive Rs 100,000.



The hosts have decided to award a Yamaha bike to the best player of the tournament. Best players in different positions will also get cash prizes and trophies.



Both teams of St Xavier´s in semis



St Xavier´s, Jawalakhel and the hosts St Xavier´s, Godawari booked their berths in the semifinals of the 15th Father Moran Memorial Primary-level Invitational Football Tournament on Tuesday.



St Xavier´s, Jawalakhel defeated Pushpanjali 4-3 in tiebreaker at Godawari after the regulation and extra time ended goalless. They will take on Little Angels´ in the semifinal.



Meanwhile, the hosts thrashed Chelsea 5-0. Sirjan Mahat scored two goals while Sampurna Baniya, Rathit Bhusal and Abit Thapa added a goal each. They will face defending champions NAPF in the semifinal on Thursday.


NSC, trainees reach agreement



National Sports Council (NSC) and trainees undergoing Assistant Coach Training Course have finally reached a five-point agreement on Tuesday. The trainees had been demanding that NSC appoint all 748 trainees as assistant coaches.



In the agreement reached after the third round meeting, NSC has agreed to create additional 1,000 posts for assistant coaches by holding an NSC board meeting by December 21, fulfill the vacant positions at NSC through open competition, make special arrangements for transportation and health care facilities of players and coaches, make compulsory provision of sports teacher in every school and coordinate with the respective institutions for implementing them.



NSC Vice President Pitambar Timilsina, Member Secretary Haribabu Chaudhary, Treasurer Minkrishna Maharjan, Members Samim Miya Ansari and Rabindra Yadav and the trainees´ Meeting Committe Coordinator Ramkumar Tharu, among others, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions.
