The website of National Sports Council (NSC), the apex body of Nepali sports, nsc.gov.np is in a sorry state. Its homepage states that Jeevan Ram Shrestha is still the member secretary of NSC. [break]
However, the fact is that Hari Babu Chaudhary has been NSC’s member secretary since July 23, 2009. The pages of event calendar, player/coach profile, rating/ranking, sports journal, sports tourism, directory and history are vacant. The photo gallery page also contains only six photos.
Keshari Chitrakar, the head of the Press and Publication Section at NSC, said she was unaware of the condition of the website.
“We are not assigned anything regarding the website. But most people ask us the same question. It is the responsibility of the Information and Statistics Department (ISC),” said Damodar Aryal, a staff in the section. However, ISC is without staff at present. Previously, there used to be two staffers, but one has gone abroad and the other has been transferred to Sports Academy Nepal (SAN).
Likewise, the case of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA)’s official website, anfa.com, is more or less the same. Lalit Krishna Shrestha, the spokesperson of ANFA, expressed ignorance about the website’s condition. “The staff who was assigned the job was ill and has just joined. The website will be updated soon,” Shrestha said.

While the official websites of sports bodies are in a pitiable state, private sites like goalnepal.com, cricket.com.np and others are regularly updated and also generating income.
Keeping this in view, Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has decided to reconstruct its site, cricketnepal.org, in collaboration with the private sector. CAN’s website too has not been updated for nearly two years.
“Our executive body on Friday finalized the proposal to hand over the site for updating and running in a new way,” said Tarak Mani Dixit, the spokesperson and secretary of CAN. Dixit said that CAN has appointed a team led by Surya Thapaliya, a cricket enthusiast, for the management of the site for a year.
“Yes, we have agreed to sign the agreement with CAN. We are doing it voluntarily,” Thapaliya confirmed, and added, “We will run the site commercially. We’ll change its name as well. CAN will not have any financial burden.” He also shared that all the problems regarding the site will be solved and it would be running within a week or two.
