KATHMANDU, April 26: The Special Court has ordered to keep Sunil Paudel, former managing director of Nepal Telecom, in judicial custody on charges of illegal wealth acquisition.
Yagya Raj Regmi, Information Officer at the Special Court, said that the bench of Judges Tej Narayan Singh Rai, Ram Bahadur Thapa, and Ritendra Thapa ruled for his judicial custody on April 24 in connection with charges of acquiring illegal wealth.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had lodged a corruption case against Paudel, accusing him of amassing Rs 237.5 million in illegal wealth by misusing his official position.
In light of his amassed property which is not in proportion to his reported income, the CIAA concluded that there is sufficient evidence to support allegations of illegal wealth acquisition. Paudel was arrested on January 24 and detained for investigation.
Paudel has been accused of irregularities in the procurement of the National Payment Gateway System.
According to Nepal Police sources, Paudel was transferred to Dillibazar jail following the Special Court’s decision.
