Kathmandu, Aug 30: A meeting between Speaker Devraj Ghimire and the newly-elected chairpersons of the 10 thematic committees under the House of Representatives was held today.
In the meeting, the Speaker directed the chairpersons of the committees to ensure the effective operation of the respective committee and to efficiently handle the bills currently under consideration.
The Speaker in the meeting that was also attended by Deputy Speaker Indira Rana and the secretary, briefed the new chairpersons of the committees on the procedures to conduct the business, the existing needs of the committees and the status of the bills.

Talking to media persons following the meeting, the Speaker said that discussions centered on tasks to be undertaken by the committees, their responsibilities and potential approaches to enhance the efficiency of parliamentary proceedings.
"The overall performance of parliament relies on the effectiveness of the committees," he said, adding that bills of specific nature had remained in the committees and that they would be receiving more bills for further executions. "The committees are expected to finalize such documents promptly."
Finance Committee Chairman Santosh Chalise said the meeting focused on making the committees’ business prompt and effective.
Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee Chairperson Bimala Subedi said during the discussions, the Speaker advised the chairpersons of the committees to deliver results.
