KATHMANDU, April 9: Speaker of the House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota had a virtual meeting with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China Li Zhanshu.
On the occasion, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota emphasized on expanding the Tatopani border checkpoint in a more systematic manner and operating it smoothly. He stressed the need to expand operations from the Tatopani and Kerung ports, which have been receiving limited imports and exports due to COVID-19.
Tatopani border point to reopen in May
Stating that the Miteri Bridge in Liping of Tatopani is a symbol of friendship between Nepal and China, Speaker Sapkota said that the relations between the two countries should be brought to the people's level.
During the meeting that took place on Friday afternoon, the two sides exchanged in-depth views on various aspects of Nepal-China relations and underscored the need to have frequent exchanges of high-level visits between the parliaments of two countries, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speaker Sapkota and Chair Li extended invitations to visit each other’s countries at mutually convenient times in the future.
Senior officials of the Federal Parliament Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the Nepali side and Chairpersons of various committees of the National People’s Congress and Vice Minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the Chinese side were also present during the virtual meeting, according to a press release issued by the ministry.
