"Now, we have only two days. I want to draw the attention of the government, all responsible political parties in this parliament and all the lawmakers toward the time constraints," Nembang said at the parliament meeting on Thursday, even as the lawmakers from opposition parties were obstructing parliament proceedings.[break]
Lawmakers from the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), Madhes-based and other small parties have been protesting the bill on CA term extension continuously for the last five days.
The NC and other opposition parties have been demanding that the ruling parties, including the UCPN (Maoist), must make tangible progress toward advancing the peace process and ensure an environment conducive to promulgate the new constitution within the extended deadline.
The government on May 13 registered the bill at the parliament secretariat with a plan to table the bill on May 22 and conduct vote on the bill on Thursday. But the government plan was foiled due to continuous obstruction by the opposition parties in parliament.
The CA term extension bill needs to be endorsed by two-thirds majority in parliament. The extended deadline of the CA is expiring on May 28.
Last year, the bill to amend the constitution for CA term extension was endorsed in the midnight of May 28 due to dispute among the major political parties.
