KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The body of a Spanish national, Erik Kasanovas, who had gone missing along with his friend during a trek to Myagdi Ghorepani via Birethanti in Kaski, has been found. The whereabouts of the other missing person are still unknown.

The two Spanish nationals arrived in Nepal on August 22 and went missing three days later, on August 25, while trekking to Myagdi Ghorepani through Birethanti in Kaski. They had registered their names at the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) check post in Birethanti.

Pedestrians reported to a local representative after finding rucksacks, mobile phones, a cap, t-shirts, and other clothes and trekking materials near the Mauja River in Tikhedhunga, Annapurna Rural Municipality-9.

Ramesh Gurung, Ward Chairman of Annapurna Rural Municipality-9, said the incident was subsequently reported to the local police station in Birethanti. The passports of the missing trekkers were also found in the bag.

Chairman Gurung said that further search operations began after receiving information that Spanish nationals Erik Kasanovas (male) and Molass Missy (female) had gone missing.

The body of a man was found on Tuesday after a team from the Armed Police Force, including divers, conducted a search operation in the Mauja River. SP Mohan Thapa stated that it is believed the individuals went swimming in the river due to the hot weather that day.

Police said the body was found approximately one and a half kilometers downstream from where the bags and other materials were discovered. Efforts are being made to take the body to the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences for a post-mortem, and the search for the other missing person is ongoing.
