KATHMANDU, Oct 4 : While leaders of various parties have defected to other parties after not being picked as candidate for the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections, central committee member of Rajendra Mahato-led Sadbhavana Party (SP) Rajeev Jha has defected to Sarita Giri-led Nepal Sadbhavana Party (NSP).

Speaking to Republica, Jha said that he quit SP as it was fostering caste-based politics. “I have been victimized in the party,” said Jha, accusing the party of being biased toward “upper-caste” leaders. [break]

He also claimed that Mahato has nominated candidates with strong financial backup. He also claimed that SP has informally reached a deal on seat adjustment with Ram Krishna Yadav, a Nepali Congress candidate from constituency 2 of Dhanusha.

Jha will contest the polls from constituency 2 of Dhanusha representing NSP. “SP Chairperson Giri has assured me that she will offer me the post of general secretary.” He then went to claim that the voters have assured him of victory.

Refuting Jha´s allegations, SP Joint General Secretary Arjun Upreti said, “The accusations made by Jha are baseless.”
