The NA personnel facing action had manhandled Singh after the death of their colleague Ram Bahadur Chaudhary during a regular physical training exercise some two- -and-a-half months ago.[break]
They alleged that Singh had forcibly sent Chaudhary for a regular exercise even as the latter expressed inability due to his ailing health condition. Chaudhary had collapsed shortly and died later while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.
A patient of heart ailment, Chaudhary had returned to the barrack only a few days ago after receiving treatment in Kathmandu.
NA had initiated a court of inquiry against a total of 35 “mutineers” following the incident of manhandling Major Singh.
Among those being sacked from NA service, Tek Bahadur Kumal has been slapped a three-year jail term. Likewise, Bijaya Kumar Yadav, Rajesh Prasad Yadav, Rajesh Yadav, Pradip Pokharel, Niraj Bhatta and Min Nath have been slapped a two-year jail term for the offense.
Sabin Thuyaju, Suman Adhikari, Tek Bahadur Bhujel, Dev Narayan Chaudhary, Rameshwor Chaudhary, Bishnu Prasad Koirala and Lok Bahadur Shrestha have been sentenced to one year jail term.
According a press statement issued by NA Public Relations Directorate, those facing nine-month jail term over the incident include Suresh Ray Yadav and Ramu Ray Yadav. Though Ajaya Thapa, Samin Gurung, Raj Kumar Mahato, Madan Bahadur Shahi, Ramesh Bhusal and Dev Kumar Singh have been sacked they have not been slapped any jail term. All those facing jail-term will be considered ineligible for any government services in the future.
Likewise, the military court has stalled promotion of Major Singh and Jit Bahadur Khatri, Sharan Thapa, Dipak Ghimire, Lawa Raj Saud, Lal Bahadur Dangi, Saha Dev Acharya and Umesh Khadka for two years.
The military court has demoted Radhe Shyam Dagaura Tharu, Sita Ram Tamang, Kamal Shrestha, Ram Aashish Mahato, and Sikindar Raut Kurmi for their involvement in manhandling Singh.
The NA personnel facing action had manhandled Singh and Pawan Barrakoti alleging that the latter were responsible for the death of Chaudhary.
